Indigenous Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that the Games will return to the traditional territory of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which is an agreement between the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabek and other Indigenous Nations to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Haudenosaunee 1701 Beaver Hunting Grounds Treaty and the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississauga’s of the Credit First Nation.
As the proposed catchment area of the Games is home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island (North America), the bond of social responsibility and the resolve to strengthen and enhance collaboration with Indigenous Peoples is a key priority.
